Amy is BMY’s Holistic Physiotherapist and Medical Director. Born in South Africa, Amy discovered a love for dance and movement early on. With strong intuition towards kinesthetic intelligence, when the time came to enroll in university, the option to pursue a path to become a physiotherapist was the perfect fit. Amy’s fascination and enthusiasm for the intelligence of how the skeletal and muscular systems connected, supported each other and created the possibility for balance and agility inspired her desire to learn further. Over time, as her experience in treating people with different injuries grew, Amy started to notice a pattern among the patients she worked with. While many had indeed experienced a direct physical injury, there also seemed to be other significant historical incidences and chronic conditions that conventional physiotherapy education did not address.&nbsp;Sensing the significance of the impact of one element on another, Amy felt driven to learn more about the connection between and within other systems of the body. She pursued a certification in Craniosacral Therapy and Visceral Manipulation which shifted the way she approached the assessment, understanding, and treatment for her patients. She discovered that the integration of these methods allowed a holistic approach that led to positive results for many conditions including neck pain, headaches, migraines, digestive problems, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, anxiety and so on.&nbsp;Still, she wanted more. Amy believed in preventative medicine as fundamental for a thriving community. As such, she happily completed a Yoga Teacher Certification, a Pilates instructor certification and a specialization in Pre and Post Natal Pilates to be able to offer to clients an empowering approach to holistic health and wellness.&nbsp;From there, as a firm believer in the mind-body connection, Amy was excited to join Body Mind You, Holistic Wellness and be part of a wellness center that placed collaboration for holistic and naturalistic approaches to healthcare at the center of its philosophy.&nbsp;

Dr. Bhavna is BMY’s DHA licensed Homeopathic Physician. With over 16 years of clinical experience, Bhavna has a profound understanding of classical homeopathy, honed a rich clinical career treating diverse physical ailments, mental health concerns, and chronic conditions ranging from respiratory to digestive to autoimmune, among others.&nbsp;Dr. Bhavna’s fascination with the body’s innate potential for wellness began early in life. She grasped the crucial connection between the gradual deterioration in healthy bodily function and the exposure to chronic life stressors and unhealthy lifestyle. Just as a plant that is well nourished naturally grows into a healthy and vibrant plant, a plant that is neglected and exposed to toxic (“stressful”) elements will wilt and pale. This natural principle of thriving or falling out of balance inspired Bhavna towards the holistic approach of Homeopathy, which focuses on utilizing natural remedies to internal health systems, fostering harmony and resilience. &nbsp;&nbsp;Dr. Bhavna’s belief in homeopathy originated from witnessing its benefits firsthand as an alternative treatment for her mother. When her mother battled ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease, she turned to homeopathy for help and Bhavna observed her mother’s remarkable recovery from persistent pain after just five doses. Witnessing the effectiveness of homeopathy in treating her loved ones from such a young age ignited Dr. Bhavna’s passion to shed light on this underappreciated form of alternative medicine.&nbsp;Dr. Bhavna passionately pursued her degree in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery and soon started developing her skills as an intern at Irla Hospital in Mumbai. Throughout her career, she nurtured a curiosity for refining treatments using non-invasive methods. She recognized that, for many people, invasive procedures and assessments could be challenging. So, when she discovered Biofeedback, she embraced it as a transformative tool and completed her training as a Biofeedback therapist in 2016. Since then, she integrated this modality into her practice, enriching her ability to support her patients in achieving their wellness objectives.&nbsp;With a blend of intuition and scientific insight into holistic wellness, Bhavna was excited to learn about BMY’s philosophy and swiftly joined driven by a shared mission to provide holistic naturalistic healthcare.

Dr. Bhavna Mishra

Nora is bmy’s holistic psychotherapist and co-founder. She is passionate about the connection between mental and physical health. Her desire to help others was always an intuitive part of her nature. One day, in high school, she learned about the field of psychology and decided this was her path. However, the field was still misunderstood, at the time, and charged with stigma. Family and friends encouraged her to keep her options open and build on her leadership qualities. So, she pursued a minor in Business Administration and eventually achieved a master’s in it as well. She then spent her 20’s in the business realm and followed the “trusted path” of working in the banking sector for several years. But it wasn’t fulfilling and she often felt lost.&nbsp;One day, Nora decided to quit this “secure” job and take a couple of months off. She needed time to reflect. After several months of her own intensive therapy, she was ready to take the steps to pursue a career in psychotherapy. She found the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto California and decided this was the place for her.&nbsp;One of the epiphanies that Nora had was the realization that mental health challenges were not limited to people who had undergone intense hardships or were living in difficult communities. She reflected on the small traumas that children experience in everyday life that can be missed, the shock traumas that can be overlooked, and the signs of anxiety and insecurity that can be written off as a personality. When she was introduced to somatic therapy, she felt an immediate alignment with its perspective and approach. She spent the next several years in the US pursuing as many trainings as she could in the somatic therapy realm. Finally, with a license as a California Marriage and Family Therapist, a certification as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, and training in various complementary modalities, she was ready to move back to the Middle East.&nbsp;Nora had had many conversations with her sister over the years about one day creating a health and wellness space of their own Finally, in 2022, they felt ready and the concept of Body Mind You Holistic Wellness was formed, integrating the many different experiences and knowledge they accumulated on their journey.&nbsp;

Samar is one of BMY’s outstanding holistic therapists, with over 20 years of experience in the field of sociology, communication, adult education and counseling.&nbsp;She is dedicated to helping people thrive in their lives by offering various practices of individual, couples, and group therapy.&nbsp;Samar can trace the beginnings of her professional journey from early on in life. She was an enthusiastic organizer of community projects throughout her school years and engaging in social work and community collaborations were all a normal part of her upbringing in her family. As she matured and sought to find her own life’s meaning, she discovered great joy in learning how to support people in improving their relationships, their mental health and their overall lives.&nbsp;&nbsp;In the late 1990s, Samar experienced a significant turning point; the unexpected death of her mother. It was in this time, when she found herself suddenly in a deep well of grief and disbelief, that a thoughtful friend suggested she join a new project: a mental health website targeting Arabic speakers. Little did she know that she was about to embark on a whole new trajectory of exciting social work through one of the most prominent Arabic websites of the time. It became a crucial resource for everyone seeking help from Arabic communities all over the world.&nbsp;As her career on this venture progressed, Samar advanced to become the editor-in-chief of the counseling pages. In addition to supervising the online media, she also became involved in organizing training programs, in collaboration with international organizations, for different members of the community. This period marked the beginning of her exposure to a wide range of pertinent social and psychological issues.&nbsp;After years of working in this arena, Samar decided to go back to school and gain the skills to become a therapist in her own right. She felt a great responsibility towards the people she encountered and wanted to be able to support them. Over the next four years, she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and also underwent intensive training in Classical Psychodrama with the Egyptian Association for Group Therapy and the Mediterranean Association of Psychodrama in Italy. She also received training in Dynamic Group Therapy and then specialized in Trauma-Focused Psychodrama.&nbsp;&nbsp;Through her work, it was evident to Samar that painful experiences have a profound impact on individuals and communities, even across generations. This led her to pursue training in the latest modalities in trauma healing and body-based therapies, including Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, and Internal Family Systems.&nbsp;Samar went on to work as a psychologist in various medical centers and clinics until she set up her own specialized center, Insights Psychology, in Cairo, six years ago. And now, embracing a new chapter in life, Samar is enthusiastic about joining the holistic therapy team at BMY and to offering somatic psychotherapeutic group sessions, couples sessions and individual sessions to the Dubai community.&nbsp;

Zena is Body Mind You Holistic Wellness’s co-founder and somatic lifestyle medicine facilitator. Born in the US, raised in the Middle East, originally from Damascus, Syria, Zena had a passion for history, culture, and the power of artistic expression to tell the story of everyday people and transform their pain into resilience and strength. She pursued her studies in History of the Middle East and History of Islamic Art and joined different organizations that supported artists in their work.&nbsp;In parallel, she also found herself drawn to the power of somatic healing modalities. The journey began for her when, one day, she discovered a Yoga class. Having never tried Yoga before - Yoga was not well known back then - Zena was surprised at how deeply it helped her feel grounded, balanced, and rooted. For the first time, the intensity of internal anguish she often felt calmed and quieted. She decided this was an important path for her own wellness and thriving and enrolled in the intensive one-month immersive Yoga Teacher training in the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Ashram in Austria. Soon her curiosity led her to other modalities and she eagerly explored voice workshops, dance workshops and any alternative practice she could find.&nbsp;In her 30’s, Zena began volunteering at refugee camps in Lebanon. She brought the knowledge and wisdom of Yoga to these communities and could see the benefit it offered them. The meaningfulness she discovered in serving underprivileged communities opened the path for a new focus and purpose. &nbsp;She started to collaborate with other like minded individuals and joined different NGOs and organizations that served these communities.&nbsp;In 2016 Zena was introduced to Somatic Experiencing by her sister and felt the immediate alignment with the work she was doing. She completed the 3-year Professional training in Spain and became the first certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner in Lebanon. Her passion for learning continues and Zena keeps pursuing further specialized trainings in trauma recovery and healing.&nbsp;Zena and Nora often talked about creating a space someday that would integrate the passion they shared for alternative naturalistic healthcare. One day, their vision became clearer and the concept for Body Mind You Holistic Wellness was formed.&nbsp;
